Cancellation guide
How to cancel Vodafone
A clear, step-by-step guide to cancelling your Vodafone mobile, plus the things worth checking before you leave.
Before you cancel
- You may be in a minimum contract, so leaving early can trigger an early-exit charge. Ask for the exact figure before you agree to anything.
- Expect to be offered a retention discount or loyalty deal to make you stay. If you're sure you want to cancel, stand your ground.
- There may be a notice period, so you can be billed for a short while after you ask to leave. Cancel as early as you can.
- Cancel from the account you actually pay with, and make sure you're the billing owner before you start.
- Always get your cancellation confirmed in writing and keep it.
How to cancel Vodafone, step by step
- Decide if you're switching to another network. To keep your number, text PAC to 65075 for a Porting Authorisation Code; to leave without keeping it, text STAC to 65075. Vodafone replies with the code and any early-termination charge.
- Give the PAC or STAC to your new provider and the switch completes within one working day, with no 30 days' notice needed.
- If you're not switching to another provider, call to cancel: 191 (free from a Vodafone mobile) or 03333 040 191.
- For a standard cancellation you must give 30 days' notice and pay for that period.
- Check your minimum term first, early-termination charges apply if you're still in it.
- Ask for written confirmation.

Notice, fees & cooling-off
- Notice period
- 30 days for a standard cancellation (billed for that period); none when porting out via PAC/STAC (ends when the new provider activates). 14-day cooling-off on new contracts. Fee-free 30-day window if Vodafone sends an above-contract price-rise notice.
- Early-exit charge
- Early Termination Charge within the minimum term = sum of remaining monthly airtime charges minus a ~2% early-payment discount; broadband is similar. Any device/equipment subsidy is charged separately. Unreturned broadband router costs ~£72-£99 (or £199 for the Ultra Hub).
- Cooling-off
- 14 days from sign-up for contracts taken online or by phone
